WHY IS LAUTERBACH LEGALIZING CANNABIS FOR RECREATION?

Lauterbach stated that Germany’s drug policy needed to be updated since present measures were not effective in controlling usage. His goal was to advocate for better health policies and more protection for youngsters.

Cannabis users, according to the health minister, are “falling into an undertow of criminality.”

He pointed out that Germany wasn’t really attempting to replicate the Dutch model because the country lacked a controlled market.

Rather, the proposal represented “the most permissive cannabis legalization in Europe,” as well as “the most controlled market” in the EU. Lauterbach believes that this method has the potential to become a model for Europe.

However, before it can be implemented, the European Commission must determine if the plan is legal under European and international law.

Lauterbach seeks to legalize the purchase and possession of up to 30 grams of marijuana for private recreational use. According to his ideas, he wants to legalize cannabis production, supply, and distribution inside a controlled and government framework, he stated during a news conference.

Individual cannabis growing would be authorized to a restricted level. According to local media sources, each adult would be permitted three plants. Lauterbach stated during the press conference that controlled cannabis manufacturing in Germany will also be included in the legalization.

Sales would take place at specialized stores and potentially pharmacies. Advertising for cannabis goods will be outlawed, according to the proposals.
